Another reviewer complained that their power strip was not shipped properly, and it broke in transit. Maybe the seller learned their lesson, because mine was double-boxed and was fine. I have only one outlet on my patio, but with this unit I now have six outlets that are protected from rain. Plus, all the outlets can be controlled with the flip of a switch, instead of having to unplug anything. I am not using the spike, but instead have mine mounted to the wall (it comes with brackets on the back of the unit, but you have to provide your own screws). It also has a "dawn to dusk" setting which will automatically turn the power on at night, and shut it off in the morning.
I put this in my shed and I'm surprised by how well this little light illuminates the whole interior.
I found the screws aren't easy to use like the one to tighten the position of the solar panel. You need to mount the panel but then you can't tighten the screw that holds the solar panel in position. That was a little annoying.
I wouldn't mind a better switch for the light. A hanging string is a little too 1950's for me. I like a switch. I was thinking of even cracking it open and putting my own switch in but in the end I went with the string.
These days I would not get anything but LED for these types of things. The performance is so much better than anything else out there. Very low wattage that last forever.
If you hang the solar panel on the side of the shed I suggest hanging it upside down. It seems to angle better that way and gravity won't work against you.
